JTSB Annual Report

Train approaches crossingJune 2017
Client: Japan Transport Safety Board

(through JTC)

This 21,000-word assignment included reports on railway accidents and steps taken to prevent them, as well as the usual aviation and shipping content. Japan is famous for the safety and punctuality of its railways, so it might be surprising to learn how many accidents occur on level crossings. In many of these, the railway tracks cross single-lane farm roads with no barrier or warning device; motor vehicles encroach on the crossing just as a train is coming, often with tragic results.
