“52 Seats of Happiness”

“52 Seats of Happiness” is actually a train – so called because it has 52 seats, and, er, it’s full of happiness. That’s the plan, anyway. It picks passengers up at Shinjuku or Ikebukuro in central Tokyo, takes them out to Chichibu in Saitama two hours away, then brings them back again. On the way, they are wined and dined with gourmet cuisine plus a new brand of whisky specially distilled for this train. The ceilings and panelling in the carriages features designs by top architects, but as the photo shows, the furnishings are rudimentary, to say the least. A very short translation.
